Coach type: Person with addiction and loved one
Coaching since: 2023
Lived experience:
I grew up in an abusive household, largely due to a family figure’s alcohol addiction. I started struggling with alcohol when I went to college. I excelled at football; it was my way out. My problematic drinking was swept under the rug because I was an athlete, but eventually it caught up to me. I lost my chance in a potential sports career because of my DUIs. Finally, after court-ordered treatment and other attempts at sobriety, I knew it was time to well. I’ve lost so many friends to suicide and overdose and knew I was on that same path. I want people to know they’re only one decision away from a totally different life.
In 2023, a little more than one year into my recovery, my brother died. Addiction played a major role in the loss of his life. He was my best friend. I was devastated, but I was able to get through it while staying sober. My grief will always be there, and I still struggle, but I want to help more people.
Professional background:
I knew from an early age I wanted to do something with addiction; I wanted to use the trauma I had been through for something good. I’ve had a range of roles in the behavioral field, including a behavioral health technician, sexual assault advocate and addictions counselor trainee. I’m a coach at heart. I’m very comfortable around people and can establish rapport with almost anyone.
Expertise:
Family addiction, athletics & physical wellness, childhood trauma, criminal justice & corrections systems, grief in recovery
