Our Story

Fostering a better way
A bold new approach to recovery began in 2008 in Sioux Falls, SD as the private and public sectors united in an effort to fundamentally transform the way the community deals with substance use disorder. The effort has spawned a new, innovative community recovery model designed to help dramatically more people and greatly improve quality of care.

By investing in recovery
As business executives, Face It TOGETHER's founders understand the power of engaging private businesses in the battle against substance use disorder. Based on the notion that investing in recovery makes good economic sense, the new approach mobilizes the private sector, particularly employers, to extend the local recovery support system into the workplace. The model reaches more people and has improved financial sustainability as a result.

By eliminating stigma and shame
In addition, to draw more people into recovery, the Face it TOGETHER model includes an award-winning public awareness program designed to eradicate stigma and shame by shifting attitudes and enhancing understanding about recovery and substance use disorder.

By building and sharing successful examples
At the heart of the new system is a working example of a dynamic recovery community organization, Face It TOGETHER Sioux Falls. It serves as the public face and voice for recovery in the area, linking people with resources and providing recovery support services.

The early success of this community has served as the catalyst for the creation of Face It TOGETHER, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization headquartered in Sioux Falls with a national scope and a bold vision: a nation in which substance use disorder is accepted and understood like any other chronic disease.
