CEO Blog: Business - friend or foe?
February 3, 2012 at 9:26 am by Kevin KirbyHistorically, employers have gotten a bad rap for not being sympathetic to those who suffer from addiction. The prevailing perception is that employers have focused on identifying those who suffer and weeding them out rather than getting them the help they need. Not surprisingly then, employers have not been viewed as potential partners in the resolution of alcohol and drug problems.
We beg to differ. There is an economic incentive for employers to invest in the health of their employees. Wellness and chronic disease management programs are the wave of the future not only as a result of health care reform but also because employers recognize such programs as sound investments. These programs are already in place and producing the desired results with respect to many chronic diseases.
We’ve discovered that employers are eager to invest in Face It TOGETHER Sioux Falls, our first Affiliate, because it provides proven services and resources to employees such that addiction becomes a part of existing chronic disease management programs. Not only is it “the right thing to do”; helping employees manage this chronic disease produces measurable economic benefit to employers.
Employers simply must be part of the solution. In Sioux Falls, SD, they already are.
